You're struggling.
Struggling with seeing progress in your business and feeling like nothing is working.
Struggling with your health and feeling like you're the only one dealing with the symptoms you're experiencing.
Struggling with connection in your relationships and feeling like maybe it's just how it has to be for you.
Struggling with that push and pull of what you want while also, feeling like you might just need to settle...
Two quick perspective changes about struggle before we dive in:
The struggle is often coming from some nervous system reaction that is rooted in protection. When you can look at your hardships with compassion, often it can help alleviate some of this excess pressure.
Our reality is often dictated by trauma's and our perceptions of the world and events at a young age. Your young brain came up with a belief based on that event that will seep into our unconscious and dictates the way you show up in the world. These beliefs dictate you reality can stay stuck with you for a lifetime if you don't proactively support yourself through healing.
With that being said, let's chat more about the struggle and your reality.
As a solo entrepreneur I often find myself in a thinking pattern of "this is so hard, why does it seem so easy for everyone else? Am I the only one struggling here!?"
When I went through my health crisis of histamine intolerance, hypothyroid, mold toxicity, and burnout all at the same time I found myself in a state of isolation thinking that there's no way anyone has experienced all of this!?
I'm sure you've thought those same thoughts from time to time.
Each time those thoughts come in my mind I take a pause and recognize the familiarity. I know that this activation of self doubt and this sense of isolation is rooted in my nervous system feeling triggered by something outside of my comfort zone.
It's rooted in protection.
I let compassion wash over me. I tend to my nervous system using techniques like I mention in the blog I posted on Vagus Nerve Exercises, and I allow space for whatever needs support to come through.
From there, I trick my brain...
When those limiting beliefs make themselves loud your brain will try to find proof of what you're thinking to be true. You may find yourself complaining more and attracting more conversations about the negative.
You may find yourself posting about your hardships on social media and feeling a sense of comfort from all the responses of people that understand you. (I'm not saying you shouldn't do this however, you want to be mindful because you can accidentally be reinforcing a belief that is keeping you stuck there for longer).
What if you did something different?
What if instead of feeding your brain proof of this limiting belief you showed your brain proof of the reality you wish to have?
Everything you consume internally and externally dictates your reality. The food you eat can create more anxiety which, can make the world seem like a scarier place. The shows you watch, the content you consume on social media, the podcasts you listen to, the people you hang out with will all either reinforce your desires or reinforce your limitations.
The key to tricking your brain into success for business and health to get your desired reality is immersion.
Immerse yourself in conversations of success, be in environments rich with success, see evidence of people who overcame the exact obstacles you wish to overcome.
There's that saying that you are the accumulation of the 5 people you hangout with the most. And, it's completely accurate.
If you want to get healthier you're going to need to spend more time around people who understand you, people who are rooting for you, people who inspire you.
If you want to be successful in your business you have to spend time with successful people!
Immersing yourself in the possibilities can help your brain recognize that your desired reality is possible. It becomes so normal to hear stories of triumph that you can't help but start to believe that it's possible for you.
You may be thinking: "Shannon, this sounds great but, the thought of having to go out and get all new friends is daunting and makes me even more overwhelmed!"
... as an introvert, I GET IT.
Here's what I do to immerse myself without added overwhelm to my nervous system:
Podcasts: Thankfully there are tons of incredible podcasts out there that have their shows centered around business success and healing. My personal favorite is to listen to How We Built This with Guy Raz. I have that on any chance I get to help normalize the expansive conversations around business and wealth.
Documentary's: My favorite thing is to watch documentaries on top athletes. These people take their health, success, and careers extremely seriously and it pays off! Anyone with a documentary often has some sort of story of overcoming something (that's why it's entertaining) allowing you to recognize that they're human too. Success leaves clues... follow success, take notes of the clues!
Be in the right rooms: Okay introverts, it's time to shake it up. Going to local events that are centered around exactly what you are wanting to grow and enhance is a great way to immerse yourself into your new reality. I always love to "pregame" one of these events with some extra nervous system support and a visualization meditation to help me tap into this next level version of myself. This all helps me confidently walk into a room and attract all the right people and opportunities from that event.
If this still feels overwhelming for you a great first step is to start shaking up where you work and hangout. I love working at local coffee shops during the day where I'm often next to entrepreneurs and business owners having meetings. I also like to spend time looking around and seeing how many people come into that coffee shop in the middle of the day. I sometimes create a story around each person that is like, "there's Becca, she's a multi millionaire who owns a huge product line of cosmetics and she's here getting coffee while she enjoys a slow morning of coffee, Pilates, and time outside."
... it sounds weird but, it works. (Also, one thing I love about living in Austin, TX is you can literally be sitting next to a multimillionaire and never know it.)
It works because your brain and nervous system love what's familiar. If you can normalize your next level reality it will make you can shift from this sense of constant struggle to more ease and confidence. You can start to recognize that those moments of doubt are just part of the process but, you'll get to where you're trying to go.... just like all these other people you've become familiar with through your immersion.
